I have to confess to being an unashamed lover of indie/noise pop. This band were introduced to me recently by the excellent Guardian music podcast, when they played superbly titled This Love Is Fucking Right. Since then i have delved deeper and found this gem of a song. The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart are being touted as part of a New York C86 revival scene alongside bands like Crystal Stilts & the Vivian Girls. I don't care about that. This is pure Sunny Sundae Smile era My Bloody Valentine played with a youthful exuberance and energy which makes it sound fresh and relevant. Pity the band name is a fucker to remember.

I first heard it many years ago on Giles Peterson's Worldwide show and then spent ages trying to track down a copy. I finally found a booty copy in the now defunct BPM records in Derby. Its one of Mary J's finest tracks with a great verse from a young and bossy Nas.
