Beyond The Wizards Sleeve

Beyond the Wizards Sleeve is a collaboration between Trash supremo and indie kids DJ of choice Erol Alkan, and Richard Norris ex of The Grid. They first came to my attention when i heard their re-animation (as they call them) of Promises by Badly Drawn Boy on a Jazzanova mix. I'd never heard the original of this track as i lost interest in Badly Drawn Boy many years ago but this mix is lovely stuff, kind of late 80's/early 90's mid tempo piano house. Proper 5am tackle.

Badly Drawn Boy - Promises (Beyond the Wizard's Sleeve Re-Animation)

Since hearing that i've been out and bought their Re-Animations cd, a 12 track compilation of their remixes to date. I'm not loving it all at the minute TBO but its early days. What i am loving though is their
re-animation of Roscoe by Midlake. The original of this track is one of my favourites from recent years, so i was a little worried it could be ruined. I shouldn't have worried as what they've done is just add to beauty of the original. Dare i say bettering it!?

The Drones

The Drones - The Minotaur
I finally got round to checking this band at the weekend and it was well worth the effort. I had no idea what to expect but i definitely wasn't expecting anything this good. The first track on their Myspace was this single from their 4th lp Havilah. This is intense nasty stuff with huge guitars and i can't stop playing it over and over and over....
The new lp is out now on ATP records with a free download code.

RIP Selectadisc

Sad, sad news. After 43 years serving the good people of Nottingham independent record shop Selectadisc finally closed this weekend. Another one bites the dust.

Back from Iceland

After a month of struggle i finally have a new keyboard so i can start posting again. Due to fact that Apple don't make these keyboards anymore (and the new ones aren't compatible, thanks) i had to search ebay for one. I thought i'd picked up a bargain at £7.50 until it arrived and was an Icelandic model! After an hour spent switching the keys over from my knackered old one i'm finally back.
Here's a song from Iceland
